Fun and festive waffles perfect for Halloween, customizable with playful designs and delicious flavors.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk (or regular milk with 1 tablespoon vinegar)
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (black and orange for spooky designs)

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, beat the eggs and add buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until well incorporated.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir gently until just combined. Some lumps are okay; do not overmix.
  4. Prepare the Waffle Iron: Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Coat it lightly with non-stick spray or brush with oil.
  5. Add Food Coloring: For added fun, divide the batter into two bowls. Add orange food coloring to one bowl and black food coloring to the other. Stir until the colors are vibrant.
  6. Cook the Waffles: Pour the batter onto the preheated waffle iron, using approximately 1/2 cup for each waffle. Close the lid and cook according to your waffle iron’s instructions, usually 4 to 5 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Keep Warm: Keep the cooked waffles warm in an oven set at 200Β°F (95Β°C) while you cook the remaining waffles.
  8. Serve and Decorate: Serve the waffles warm with your favorite toppings. Get creative with whipped cream, chocolate chips, and syrup to decorate your spooky designs!

Notes

Experiment with toppings like fruits, sprinkles, or Halloween-themed candies to enhance the festive charm of the waffles. Do not overmix the batter to ensure fluffiness.
